Poetry Reflection Blog

Prompt:

  • Poetry can be a vital, real part of everyone's life. What place or importance does poetry have in my own life? Does poetry belong to everyone? How do I know?
  • How does the life and experiences of a poet affect the poem he/she creates?

Poetry's importance in my life is, I write/read it whenever I am feeling down. I like to read poems about how other people are feeling or just vaguely about feelings. I like to read poems like this because; I can compare how the author feels to my feelings. Also, I can talk about the poem and hear what other people think the poem means to them. I really think it's cool when there is some poems that have multiply meanings, so then everyone has a different interpretation. For me, even artist are poets. They are just writing poetry with lyrics and music, or with a paint brush and canvas.

Poetry doesn't really belong to everyone, because some people are really good at writing it and understanding the poems. Some people don't always have the right comprehension to depict poems like other people. I know this because, sometimes when I am reading a poem, I get what it means and other people don't. Also, writing poems come like a second nature to me, I am able to make words rhyme or create a repetition pattern throughout the poem. I know a lot of people can't rhyme words with other words, or cannot use figurative language to the best of its abilities.

The life experiences that an author goes through affects on the author's writing greatly. It affects the author's writing style because, if they grew up in a misfortunate situation their poem could start off like:
In a world,
Where happiness
No longer existed.

A world where,
Smiles and laughter
Was banned from everyone.”

So, if they had a negative life, their poem could come out dark, and scary. But, if they had a good life, it would give their poem a happy connotation and may look something like:
I walk out the door,
And see gumdrops
And gum balls
Raining from the sky.”

See how different those two are? The author’s background helps the reader better understand the poems. It’s kind of like how my poems, are always straightforward and aren’t really sugar coated. For me, it’s like this because I was always being taught to never sugar coat something, when you want the point to be cleared.

"My Hapixious Day" Nonsense Poem

Sorry, my poem is really long, and I had to take a lot of screenshots. Some of the poem is real and some is fake, it was based off of Monday. The formatting is really off right now, and it may be hard to read, if you would like, I can add the transcript.

Found Poetry

Found Poetry

You can't really see the poem so here it is:
"Of course you will. Dozens of people who know you and love you, now are aware that it was only different for a semester. He's going to live." "And me? I wouldn't have lived. Didn't you think of that?" "No."

The meaning of this poem is, two people talking about a boy who was just different for a little while. With the girl however, it was completely different. She doesn't think she is okay, she thinks she wouldn't have lived. But, while she was talking to her best friend, she says she had no possible chance of living. Her best friend however, makes her realized it was only different for a little while, that everything will go back together. (It sounds a little repetitive, sorry).

Spine Poetry

Spine Poetry
"Have a little faith, four hope was here, never fall down, never say die, start something that matters."

The meaning of this poem is, no matter what hardships you go through, you have to have at least some faith. In whatever situation, there will always be hope, even if you are in the darkest of situations. Don't fall down and never try to physically or emotionally self-harm or in  a sense "say die". Instead of sitting there, and being depressed, come out of the situation and "start something that matters." There is a really cool song that goes with this poem, which is underneath this paragraph.

Mockingjay Two Voice Poem!

The green is Katniss (because, it's her favourite color) and the orange is Peeta (it's his favourite). The black in the middle is what they say together. It might seem dark and eery because, well you just have to read the books. You might need to zoom in. MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS

3rd Quarter Reflections :)

Third quarter is over already? Wow! Did that go fast! I can't believe it's over! Only one more quarter left of school! I feel like just yesterday was the first day of school. The area where I think I improved the most would be writing. I feel like my writing improved a lot more than when I started 7th and even 6th grade! When I look back at my writing from when I was younger I always see grammatical errors, that I can now address and fix. I also learned how to write an objective summary the correct way, and to add no textual evidence. On top of that, I learned how to identify a conjunction and where to put a comma. I think that as I grow (as a writer), I will progress even more with my writing.

Even though I finished my 40 book challenge, I just want to say it was a lot of fun. I read more books than I ever thought. And even book I thought would be really boring, or just for old people. I figured out I am a sucker for novels and traditional literature. The hardest part of the challenge was probably informational/nonfiction and science fiction. It was just because, I am more of a fiction or realistic fiction reader. I think if you just take your time with the challenge and don't stress it, you're going to finish it.

The most challenge part of 3rd quarter was probably keeping my grades up, (there wasn't really a struggle in this class, so in general.) I think it was a lot more hard to keep my grades up than first quarter or sixth grade. I started with really low grades and eventually worked my way up to A's and B's. I feel that third quarter was the hardest quarter so far, it was filled with worry and stress about my grades. Which had a really bad effect on me.

What Shall I Do Today? Extended Poem by Me:)

Does anyone know where the phrase "what shall I do today" is from? Hint: red braids, mismatching socks, monkey and horse! Good luck;)

Go to a rally?
Or go to a play?
What shall I do today?
What shall I do today?
What shall I do?

I would see an old friend!
I would see a great drama!
But, would I have fun at the play?
What shall I do today?
What shall I do today?
What shall I do?

I would be with my friends!
I would hear a great story!
But, would my friend be mad, for not going to her play?
What shall I do today?
What shall I do today?
What shall I do?

Friends, or church?
Drama or rally?
What shall I do today?
What shall I do today?
What shall I do?

I decided the rally,
For I would have a lot of fun.
I met a new person,
And got free food.
